who's eating pizza? #1 (nyc: village)

I had high aspirations: one night, 100 pizzerias, 100 photos of people eating pizza.  I'd saunter in, they'd all beg to participate, quick quick quick, next place.  I texted my cousin Jason.

Me: "Thinking about doing a mega Pizzathon in Manhattan for my blog. Wanna join for a little?"

Jason: "I am actually doing some work at home and can join you but I am still confused by plan!"

I him we'd stop at as many pizzerias as we could,   solicit one volunteer (or table of volunteers) per place (no sit-down restaurants), snap a photo, jot down names and remarks, and go to the next joint.

After one stop I could tell he found it boring.   Sport that he was, he stuck with it for over two hours (thank you, Jason — I owe you several more slices!).

After a couple of stops, I knew I could not do 100 pizzerias (or even 25).   But over the course of three hours I did meet people in 15 different places — all below 14th Street, and all but three above Houston Street.

They spoke about pizza with varying enthusiasm. Some were thoughtful about pizza's flavors and textures, others weren't interested in that stuff — pizza was just a cheap meal. Some acted blasé about the topic, others suspicious of my project, some were inebriated and didn't make sense, others — also inebriated —were comparing attributes of the various Romance languages.
